The environmental group American Rivers is out with its 2001 list of the Nation’s Most Endangered Rivers. And, the Missouri River tops the list. American Rivers’ President Rebecca Wodder says there would be great benefits in restoring the natural flow of the Missouri River, and she’s calling on the Army Corps of Engineers to consider a proposal from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to do just that. Farmers and other opponents of the plan fear that tinkering with the river’s flow will lead to devastating spring flooding.
