Senate Committee Considering Execution Ban On Retarded

April 10, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Legislation aimed at ending the death penalty against the mentally retarded in Missouri is being considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill passed easily in the House. Now, the Judiciary Committee must decide whether to approve it and send it to the full Senate. It’s anyone’s guess when that might happen. Supporters are hoping for action before the current session ends on May 18th. A similar bill, last year, was filibustered on the final day of the session.
