St. Louis-area Congressman Todd Akin has prostate cancer. The 53-year-old Republican is scheduled to undergo surgery April 13th in St. Louis, while Congress is on spring recess. The cancer was discovered during a routine examination and the detection was early. Doctors say finding the cancer at an early stage means there is a high probability of full recovery. Akin was elected in November, replacing Jim Talent, who ran unsuccessfully for Governor. Prior to running for Congress, Akin served twelve years in the Missouri House of Representatives.
