Benes Torched as Cardinals Lose Again

April 5, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

The Colorado Rockies scored 12 runs in the first three innings last night against the St. Louis Cardinals and then held on for a 13-9 win. Cardinals starter Andy Benes was rocked for 10 runs in just 2 2/3 innings of work. Rockies starter Denny Neagle was solid, allowing three runs in five innings while striking out seven to earn the win. Cardinals lose despite two home runs a piece from Ray Lankford and Jim Edmonds. Both of Edmonds shots landed in the upper deck of right field at Coors Field. He is the first player in history to accomplish that feat. Cardinals and Rockies wrap up this series this afternoon at 2:05.
