Democrats And Republicans Still At Odds Over Redistricting Spat

April 2, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Missouri Democrats and Republicans remain at odds over the make-up of the House and Senate redistricting commissions. These are the bodies that will decide on voting boundaries. The Republicans submitted the name of State Representative Mark Richardson of Poplar Bluff and withdrew it after a question arose over whether he could sit in the Legislature and on a state commission at the same time. Despite the withdrawal, Governor Bob Holden named Richardson, anyway. The Republicans cried foul. But the Democrats say the G-O-P knew the rules before submitting Richardson’s name, and should not be complaining now.
