An audit of Medicaid payments to the state’s nursing home industry highlights what Auditor Claire McCaskill feels is a need to alter the reimbursement rate. Nursing homes submit information ont he costs of caring for Medicaid patients and reimbursements are set, based on that information. McCaskill says the rates haven’t been rebased since 1992. She says that leaves some nursing homes receiving more money than they deserve … and others receiving less. McCaskill says updating the Medicaid reimbursement rate will benefit both the patients who use the services and the nursing homes which are providing the best benefits to those patients.
