Cards Still Plan on Ankiel in Rotation

March 27, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Despite his continuing bout with wildness, the St. Louis Cardinals still plan to break camp later this week with Rick Ankiel as a part of their rotation. Ankiel is scheduled to make his first start of the season on April 7th when the Cardinals visit Arizona. In his last two spring starts, Ankiel has walked 12 batters in just four-and-a-third innings. However, Ankiel did pitch well in a “B” game yesterday against minor leaguers from the Expos organization. He did not allow a hit or a walk while throwing 31 of his 41 pitches for strikes.
