As state lawmakers consider one of Governor Bob Holden’s top education priorities, they hear an endorsement from one of only 44 Missouri teachers to gain national accreditation. Hazelwood teacher Steve Kimball says the certification process for accreditation forces teachers to question how well they’re reaching their students. Holden proposes a $5,000 annual supplement for nationally certified teachers and an additional 10-percent bonus if they mentor others. The Governor hopes an additional one thousand teachers will gain national accreditation in the next four years.
