Health officials in Missouri are gearing up for World TB Day 2001, Saturday, hoping to draw attention to the fact that tuberculosis is not a disease of the past. While the number of reported TB cases in the United States is on the decline, the number of reported cases in Missouri is rising, though only slightly. There were 211 reported cases in Missouri in 2000. That’s a 1-percent increase over the number of cases reported in 1999. Most of Missouri’s TB cases – about 63-percent of those reported – are found in the state’s major metropolitan areas.
