The State Legislature is looking at changing the rules regulating pawn shops. As things stand now, a victim of theft whose property ends up in a pawn shop might have to file in small claims court to get back that property. Senator Morris Westfall of Halfway is sponsoring legislation to make it easier for victims to retrieve their property. It would allow sheriff’s departments and other law enforcement officials to take control of disputed property until ownership can be determined. The legislation is before a Senate committee. If approved, it moves to the full Senate.
