Move For Early Takeover Of K.C. Schools Fails

March 14, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

A move to reconsider a proposal for the early state takeover of the Kansas City School district has gone down to defeat in the House Education committee. Representative David Levin of St. Louis had wanted the committee to take a second look at the proposal. His motion failed on a 12-12 vote, despite his argument that the school board’s negotiations with Superintendent Benjamin Demps are in jeopardy. Levin had voted against the motion when it was first voted on a week ago.
