An effort is underway in the State Legislature to restrict access to so-called methamphetamine precursors – legally sold cold medicines which contain chemicals used to make meth. Senator Anita Yeckel of St. Louis is the sponsor of a bill that would limit the number of times an individual could purchase cold remedies containing such chemicals as ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. Drug makers oftentimes buy large quantities of medicines containing those chemicals, then “cook” the chemicals to produce meth.
