Rick Ankiel was the surprise starting pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday, pitching in his first game since seeing his control desert him in last season’s playoffs. Ankiel twirled two scoreless innings, picking up the win in a 12-5 decision. Ankiel threw 29 pitches, 22 of them went for strikes as he showed no signs of the wildness which plagued him back in October.
