An issue that’s been brought up before the General Assembly in the past is back before state lawmakers. It’s an effort to create a so-called sales tax holiday. Two bills are being considered by the House. One calls for a tax exemption on clothing valued at 100 dollars or less during a one week period in August, while the other proposes an exemption on clothing valued at 20 dollars or less for the entire month of August. August was chosen as the month for the tax holiday because it’s the time of year parents and teenagers are spending a lot of money on back-to-school clothing and other items tied to the return to classes.
