Protection for canoe rental companies against lawsuits from people who do what many would consider dumb things has been approved by the Senate. The state’s canoe outfitters are tired of people suing them because the renters sometimes tip over canoes and get hurt. They call these suits nuisance lawsuits because the renter – not the outfitter – is responsible for the injury. The Senate has agreed the current law makes no sense and has sent it onto the House for its approval.
