Attorney General Jay Nixon has completed his study of the recent spike in natural gas prices and has submitted it to Governor Bob Holden. Nixon’s probe found no evidence of illegal activity on the part of the state’s natural gas companies. But Nixon believes Missouri’s system of natural gas regulation places too much burden on the consumer and provides too little incentive to gas companies to keep rates down. He says when companies benefit from price declines consumers should be aware of the fluctuations so they can expect reductions in their own gas bills. Nixon is recommending Governor Holden mandate prompt rate decreases when wholesale prices go down.
