A legislative effort has been launched to toughen the state’s telemarketing law, which goes into effect July 1st. State Representative Rick Johnson (D-High Ridge) is sponsoring a bill that would close some loopholes in the existing legislation. He’s particularly concerned about the exemption that would allow anyone who has made a business contact within the past 180 days to continue to contact people. He says a business contact should be more than just a cold call from a telemarketer. The state’s telemarketing law allows Missourians to place their names on a “Do-Not-Call” list which will be available to telephone solicitors.
