The Kansas City Chiefs have decided not to use the franchise player designation on guard Wil Shields. That means that come the beginning of free agency, March 2nd, he can begin weighing offers from other teams. The Chiefs maintain exclusive negotiating rights until then. Shields has appeared in each of the last six Pro Bowls. He is an eight-year veteran.
