Kinder tries to curb alcohol suits

Restaurants and bars can be held criminally liable if they get a customer too drunk, but state senator Peter Kinder wants to draw the line there, and stop damage awards in civil court. Lobbyist for the Missouri Trial Lawyers Association, Luann Madsen, reminded lawmakers during a hearing on the matter last week that allowing civil damages in these cases doesn’t mean restaurants and bars always pay-up. Someone still has to prove their case against the alcohol provider and convince a jury.
