Corn farmers have begun laying plans to build another ethanol plant in Missouri, this one in or near Audrain County. They’ll be meeting in tonight in Vandalia to discuss the matter; more meetings are planned in other towns. Young says the plant could open in 2003, but it may take a little longer. Farmers would have to buy 51% of the plant to qualify for state incentives. Those perks have spurned similar plants in Craig, Macon, another plant is planned in southeast Missouri.
