Hayride accident prompts bill

February 14, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

The State Legislature is mulling over a bill aimed at making hay rides safer. It’s in response to an accident near St. Louis in October of 1999 in which a Girl Scout outing ended in tragedy when the brakes on the tractor pulling a hay wagon gave out. Katie Fisher was chaperoning the Girl Scouts on that outing and believes legislation is necessary. One of the Girl Scouts was killed in the accident and many other people were injured, some seriously. Supporters of the legislation point out there are very few rules and regulations governing the hay ride business.
