Appreciate your state birds

February 14, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Not every decision made by our state lawmakers is a life or death matter. Take Bird Appreciation Day for example. The state senate has approved a proposed law making March 21st the day each year that our schools teach students to appreciate birds. Some state senators say they’ve been lobbied by the squirrel caucus–and that squirrels are being slighted, although they often dine at the same feeders that birds use. The sponsor of the bird day bill, Senator Steve Stoll of Festus, has promised to support a bill next year designating an official state squirrel.
