Members of the Missouri House hear from the Missouri Teacher of the Year, who tells them they need to better fund education. Valeri Maxwell of St. Peters teaches at the Pattonville School District. Maxwell informs lawmakers scores on standardized tests are showing improvement, but cautions against focusing solely on numbers. Maxwell also says the state needs to better pay its teachers. She points out the state ranks 37th nationally in average teacher pay.
