Legislation cracking down on drunk driving in Missouri has receive preliminary approval in the Missouri House. Sponsor Craig Hosmer of Springfield says the main reason to pass the bill reducing Missouri’s drunk driving threshold to .08 is public safety. But there is another reason. The state will lose at least $3 million a year in federal highway construction money if the state doesn’t lower the intoxication level. The bill must receive another favorable vote to move on to the Senate, where similar legislation has stalled.
