Private and parochial school interests say a proposed tax deduction for educational expenses won’t really benefit parents of their students all that much. But public school officials say any benefit is more than should be allowed. Spokesman Chris Straub of the Missouri School Boards Association opposes a proposed law letting parents take tax deductions of as much as $2,500 per child for school expenses. The co-sponsor of the legislation, Senator David Klarich of Ballwin, was questioning him during a hearing. No decision has been made on whether to send this year’s version of the bill to the full senate for debate.
