Congress considers farmer aid

February 8, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

The Congress is considering legislation to help America’s family farmers. The legislation aims to increase the payment limitation on loan deficiency payments from $75,000 to $150,000. This is the safety net for family farmers who receive less on the market for their crops than the amount of money they expected based on their loan. Southeast Missouri Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson expects speedy approval, and hopes for support from urban as well as rural lawmakers. Emerson says farmers need a break from low commodity prices and high energy costs.
