Forgiveness is requested by the family of a murderer executed by the state shortly after midnight. The state put Stanley Lingar to death early this morning at the Potosi prison for the brutal killing of a 16-year-old in 1985. State Corrections Department spokesman Tim Kniest says Lingar declined to issue a final statement, but instead wanted him to read a state issued by the family. “May each person please pray for both mothers and their families. Many tears and pains have pressed this journey. The process has been so long. We both seek forgiveness and freely extend forgiveness.”
