A Springfield judge has cleared the way for disability payments for a former Springfield policeman who tried to kill himself. Ex-officer Bill Thomas says on-the-job stress led him to try to kill himself two years ago. He’s paralyzed from the chest down. The city police pension board had granted him non-duty disability status, but that would have given Thomas lower payments. The board can appeal the judge’s ruling that could put Thomas into a higher-payment bracket.
