Missouri officials are pressing Washington to clear the way for American Airlines to acquire Trans World Airlines. In testimony before the Senate Commerce Committee, state officials point out the $8 billion annual economic impact of TWA on St. Louis where it is headquartered as well as its substantial impact on the Kansas City economy. Senator Bond warns his colleagues what will happen if the take-over doesn’t go through. But at least one member of the Commerce Committee suggests it will just continue the move toward consolidation in the airline industry which could restrict choices and raise prices.
