Lawmakers in Washington are reviewing the proposed takeover of TWA by American Airlines. Presidents of both airlines assure members of the US Senate Commerce Committee that the acquisition of TWA by American won’t hurt competition and will maintain jobs… and service to the public. American president Don Carty, though, warns Senators that time is running out, because TWA has spent about 3/4 of the $200 million American gave it to keep it running. Carty says American is committed to keep St. Louis as the hub for TWA to keep most of the thousands of employees the airline has in both St. Louis and Kansas City.
