A state senator who’s a former trucker blames people who drive the big rigs for the chronic speeding on the interstates, and the resulting increase in traffic deaths. Senator Wayne Goode of Normandy says the first thing that should be done is to slow down the trucks. He proposes a new speed limit that requires trucks to run five miles an hour slower than cars. Trucking industry lobbyist George Burris says a better idea is to require everybody to go slower. Goode’s bill is under study by a senate committee.
