Missouri’s former senator, John Ashcroft, is now the United States Attorney General. The senate today voted to confirm Ashcroft. The final vote was 58-to-42. Among the Democrats voting against Ashcroft was Senator Jean Carnahan. She issued a statement before the vote calling Ashcroft “too divisive.” Her office has refused to make Carnahan available for questions since the confirmation process began. Senator Orrin Hatch says he was disappointed with the way Democrats handled their opposition.
