Backers of a new ball park in St. Louis want the state to put up tens of millions of dollars to help build the place. And Governor Holden knows he’ll be hearing from interests in Kansas City, Columbia, and Springfield, also asking for money for new playgrounds of one kind or another. But Holden also knows the state is hundreds of millions of dollars short in the income it needs to support essential services. Holden says the budget will be tight in the next fiscal year, even without requests for new ballparks and basketball courts.
