The sponsor of a big tax increase for transportation says the state is going to have to act sooner or later because the problems keep getting bigger and more expensive to solve. But Senator Jim Mathewson of Sedalia says he’s taken his proposal out of consideration in the state senate because Republicans, who now control the chamber, don’t seem too interested in pursuing it. He introduced the bill when his party, the Democrats, still had some control of the senate. The Republican leader of the senate, Peter Kinder, says it’s the only transportation proposal available in the senate. Kinder says he wants to hear what the Governor proposes in his state of the state message tomorrow.
