Private jails debated

January 25, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Private jails or prisons wouldn’t be allowed to operate in Missouri under a law being considered by a state senate committee. Sponsor Larry Rohrbach of California says history testifies against privately operated prisons. But a part owner of a private jail near Warrensburg disagrees. Jerry Reardon of Kansas City has invested in the $3.5 million Integrity Correctional Center. The private jail accepts inmates from 16 jurisdictions, many from the Kansas City area. It houses nearly 200 inmates and is at capacity.
