A spokesman for Governor Holden denies allegations that the clemency process has failed to protect the rights of inmates condemned to die. Spokesman Jerry Nachtigal says Holden will continue the practice of the late Governor Carnahan in thoroughly reviewing all clemency requests put before him. Nachtigal says Holden rejects calls for a moratorium on executions to thoroughly review the death penalty. He says the governor believes the justice system works and Missouri doesn’t have the widespread problems that led Illinois to enact a moratorium.
