MGE rate request prompts outcry

The first application for a winter adjustment in home natural gas rates is drawing political scrutiny. Missouri Gas Energy, which supplies the Kansas City area, wants a 44% increase in its rates. Kansas City senator Harry Wiggins says the Public Service Commission better hold some hearings. In fact, he says he is “demanding” them for Kansas City residents. And Wiggins says he’ll try to force hearings if the PSC doesn’t order them. Wiggins says he’s giving the PSC until noon Monday to set up hearings, or he’ll ask the Senate to demand them.
