A report in Washington says TWA is about to join Eastern and Pan-Am Airlines in aviation history. The Washington Post says TWA will declare bankruptcy this week, and American Airlines will announce on Wednesday that it’s buying TWA’s assets. The Post says the name TWA will disappear. The purchase would make American about as big as United Airlines, the country’s biggest air carrier. It also would give American a third Midwest hub to go with Chicago and Dallas, where the company is running out of room.
