State Senator Jim Mathewson is working on a total transportation proposal for the current legislative session. It includes a provision that would make the director of the Department of Transportation and elective office from now on. Mathewson says confidence in MODOT’s leadership has been lacking for a long time. He says while he may remove the provision from the final bill, he wants to see what kind of reception the idea gets among other lawmakers.
