Ashcroft denies rift with Carnahan

January 5, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Former Senator John Ashcroft says there was no animosity between him and the late Mel Carnahan. One of the consistent themes touted in print and broadcast reports during the Ashcroft-Carnahan race for US Senate was that there exited a level of animosity between the two rare even in the heated world of politics. Ashcroft tells the Missourinet he never understood the origin of the reports. Ashcroft acknowledges he grew concerned about the tone of the Senate campaign, even mentioning his concerns during his debate with Carnahan the evening before Carnahan’s fatal plane crash.
