MO GOP basks in Ashcroft nod

January 1, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

It is sweet irony for state republicans that Senator John Ashcroft could be named U.S. Attorney General. Missouri Republican party executive director John Hancock says voters closed a door for Ashcroft on election day, but opened a window. Ashcroft wouldn’t have been eligible for the A.G. position if he hadn’t lost his senate seat. Hancock thinks Ashcroft’s refusal to challenge Governor Carnahan’s victory also made him more attractive as a gracious loser. Ashcroft must still be confirmed by the senate chamber he is leaving.
