A state senator who serves on a national education panel says students WILL rise to meet high expectations. Senator Steve Stoll of Festus says we too often expect too little from children, making excuses such as poverty or race. But, he says, research shows quite the opposite. Stoll says teaching with high expectations bring better results. Stoll is one of a handful of politicians serving on the National Education Goals Panel. It has determined that successful schools share common themes such as high expectations, clear accountability, improving teacher quality and supporting children and families.
