U.S. House Minority leader Dick Gephardt was taking heat this weekend for refusing to call George W. Bush the legitimate President. Despite knowledge Al Gore won more popular votes, Gephardt managed to utter the difficult words today. He told reporters that Congress would meet to certify the electoral vote next month, and he couldn’t imagine how much more legitimate than that it could be. Gephardt and other Congressional leaders had their first meeting with the incoming president today. Gephardt says it was a good, encouraging meeting.
