School building hazards loom

December 15, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

The head of the state center on school safety says working and studying conditions in our schools are not as safe as they could be. Dr. Russell Thompson says many schools have not enforced community safety codes. In fact, some communities don’t even have some of those codes, like the maximum capacity of a school gymnasium, and marked emergency exits. He says local and federal codes don’t have to be adopted by the schools, and with no state occupational safety and health standards, many schools have lower safety standards than some people think they have.
