You can now join the “no call” list, telling telemarketers to leave you alone. The attorney general’s office has begun accepting names on the list that will be forwarded to telemarketers who could be fined up to $5,000 for calling anyone on it. Attorney General Jay Nixon acknowledges the list will reduce, rather than eliminate telemarketing calls, because it exempts many favored industries that lawmakers let off the hook. They include financial and insurance groups as well as phone companies. The AG office will gather signatures for the next few months and the no-call prohibitions kick-in July 1st.
