It was 1917 the last time Springfield saw a December snowfall like this one. The National Weather Service says the 24-hour total recorded at the Springfield-Branson Regional Airport was 14 inches! And it wasn’t a lot better in other parts of Missouri. Joplin got a foot of snow. Up to 8 inches fell in parts of St. Genevieve and Washington Counties; the nearby St. Louis area has seen up to 6 inches. The central Missouri counties of Gasconade, Osage, and Cole Counties also have a half-foot on the ground already. Thousands of Missouri school kids got another day off school because of the storm.
