Cross questioned on police memorial

December 9, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

An ACLU complaint may result in a monument to fallen Highway Patrol troopers being taken down in St. Joseph. The memorial includes a cross, and sits on public property at Troop-H headquarters. It was erected to honor Sgt. Bob Kimberling and Cpl. Hank Bruns, who were both killed in the line of duty. Troop-H commander Johnny Hoggatt says he won’t take the monument down unless a court orders him to. ADCLU spokesman Dick Kurtenbach says it’s an issue of separation of church and state.
