Temperatures are starting to sink to levels that could cause concerns about frozen water pipes in homes and offices. Most insurance policies will cover damage resulting from pipes that freeze and burst. But Brent Butler with the Missouri Insurance Information Service says it’s best not to get into that situation to begin with. He says it’s probably past time to disconnect hoses from outside faucets. Then, he says, put some insulation around that faucet. And if you get a pipe that freezes, don’t try to heat it up with a blowtorch. Butler says a lot of people who try that wind up burning down their houses.
