Pinkel named new head coach

December 1, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

The University of Missouri makes it official. It’s hired Gary Pinkel as its new head football coach. Pinkel, who coached the Toledo Rockets to a 10-1 record this season, says he realized on his visit to M.U. that it’s where he wanted to coach. He echoed the sentiments of athletic director Mike Alden, when he said his three most important responsibilities will be winning games, graduating student-athletes, and “developing young men.” Pinkel takes over the reins from Larry Smith, who was fired earlier this month.
