A board is now in place and the Missouri Foundation of Health will soon be helping many Missourians obtain health care. The foundation is the outgrowth of a lawsuit the state filed against Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Missouri, when it decided to shed non-profit status and become a for-profit company. Attorney General Jay Nixon is pleased his efforts have resulted in formation of one of the biggest health care foundations in the country. Nixon chose 15 board members from a panel of 35 submitted to him. Eight of the 15 have medical backgrounds. Most either live in the St. Louis area, but some live in Spingfield, Columbia, Jefferson City and Ironton.
